In his address, the monarch stressed the need for equal treatment of the two communities within the town, stating, “By the time you settle down, the right will come to you and the left as well. Make sure you treat them equally.” He further urged the Naval officers to maintain a balance in their interactions with all sections of the community, warning against favouritism that could threaten Epe’s peace and harmony.

At the gathering attended by Chiefs including High Chief Shobaloju and other traditional chiefs, Oba Adewale highlighted the existing peace in Epe, attributing it to the strong collaboration between community leaders. He encouraged the officers to align with this unity, rather than fostering division. “Epe is very peaceful, and the heads of the two communities unite to discuss the progress of Epe. You should be in that line – do not move more to the left and leave the right alone.”

The monarch also shared insights into the social cohesion within the community, noting that every last Saturday of the month, a communal gathering takes place where leaders are briefed on community matters. He extended an open invitation to the Naval officers to participate in the event and integrate with the local leadership.

Acknowledging the historical Eko and Ijebu Epe dichotomy, Oba Adewale reassured the visitors that this divide has been minimized through intermarriages and constant dialogue among leaders. He reiterated the need for the Navy’s presence to be one of unity and security, urging them not to be swayed into partisan involvement. There is no way some people won’t try to win you to one side, but ensure you are here to unite, not divide, the community.”

Corroborating the Olu-Epe’s message, the Balogun of Epe Kingdom, High Chief Adeniyi Kadri Odedeogboro, affirmed the existing peace in Epe, citing intermarriage as a key factor in bridging the historical divide. He pledged seamless collaboration between local leaders and the Naval authorities.

In response, Navy Captain Ohunenese expressed gratitude to the monarch and his chiefs for the warm reception. He acknowledged the delay in their visit due to procedural approvals but assured them of the Navy’s commitment to neutrality and security in Epe. “We are here as Naval officers to synergize with you, in line with what the Chief of Naval Staff has tasked us with. There must be a cordial relationship between the Navy and the host community.”

Captain Ohunenese reiterated that security remains the Navy’s top priority in Epe, ensuring that businesses and daily activities continue without interruption. He emphasized that the Naval forces will work closely with community leaders to maintain peace and foster development.

With this renewed commitment to collaboration and neutrality, the visit underscored the importance of unity in safeguarding Epe’s progress and security.
